"Give A Dollar" Wild Horse Global Project Relief Fund
Wild horse advocate, Karen Mayfield, along with various artists from around the world, in conjunction with Whispering Winds Equine Rescue, are banding together in a global effort to save America's Wild Horses with the "Give A Dollar Wild Horse Global Project Relief Fund." The money collected will be placed in a special account set up through BLM, and approved by project organizers, to stop the euthanizing and/or the selling for slaughter of America's Wild Horses due to BLM's lack of funds in their budget.
"We would like to raise enough money to give to BLM by the next Advisory Board meeting in late September or October. Due to the state of our current economy we are asking for just one dollar from everyone in the world. If you wish to donate more that's great," states Karen Mayfield, who heads the project. Late September or October is BLM's projected decision date on the fate of these horses.
Whispering Winds Equine Rescue is a non profit rescue located just south of Roseburg, Oregon, and home to Living Legends Wild Horse Sanctuary. Their goal is to provide a safe haven for wild horses and burros that might otherwise be separated, slaughtered or suffer abuse. Simultaneously, their organization works to create an educational opportunity for people to directly experience America's living legends—the wild horse, in a natural habitat.
Currently there are 23 wild horses from Nevada, Utah and Oregon that call Whispering Winds' 156 acre ranch home. These are horses that have been gathered and gone through the adoption process but have not been able to adjust to a domestic lifestyle due to their fight or flight instincts. Living Legends has given these horses a forever home environment where they have joined up into family bands and roam free, as they once did. These horses were either relinquished from their owners, or placed with Whispering Winds through the Bureau of Land Management.
"Our horses are our family and it is our belief that there are thousands more that have the same issues out there and need to be returned to the wild where there is peace and harmony in their lives, not fear. We put no restrictions on the horses at our ranch, except the 156 acres. If we could find and afford more land, we would give more wild ones a safe place to live. I’m honored to be a part of this project and work on a solution," states Susan Pohlman, Director of Whispering Winds and Living Legends.
"Due to our limited time we are launching this project as of now. Additional information will be forthcoming, along with a list of additional supporters," added Karen.

it seems to me everyone is either trying to push for change in legeslation or help with adoption & thats great but at this point the issue has gotten so far out of hand that adoptions can't possibly be of too much help, & pushing for new legislation frankly will just
take too long though it should be continued,
I have decided to take this in another direction, I'd like to start a
new foundation a 501 (c) (3) to protect these wild horses in the private sector as others have done with other national treasures,
The private sector can move much quicker than government &
without the politics, I'd like to raise money to buy up large parcels
of acreage as new ranges for the mustangs, where they can be
managed properly with other offshoot programs for selected horses to be trained for other services like recreation, municipal,
and adoption in an effort to make a part of the foundation self sustaining, I'll talk more about it with you privetly, this is the only way I can see to help the herds as a whole with the quickest possible results to save as many as possible,

Well the state is making the facility larger where the go horses upon gathering, I'm hearing they still paln to gather in the fall. Has anyone else heard differently? The Government just doesn't listen to the people and the situation with BLM now, it's so sad, but we still have to keep up the fight.
